Garden fence? My next door neighbour has just put up a fence within the regulation 2m height however their garden in raised another 2ft above mine so the fence from my side is aound 8ft. Is this legal? Thanks
How high can I make my garden fence? My house is situated on the top of a hill, I have a small garden - the half nearest the house is a good three feet higher than the bottom half, which is paved and you go down some steps to get to it. All the fences we have are currently waist height and we would like to not only level the garden but have the normal 6 foot fences as well for privacy. Here is where it gets complicated, our house is sideways on to our back neighbours, so instead of the bottom of our gardens meeting, our back fence runs parallel to their side fence almost the entire length of their garden. There is also an alleyway between us. Because of the hill, the fence is waist height if you were standing in our garden, but 6 foot high if you were standing on the other side in the alleyway, and as a result the back neighbours garden is again lower still. We would like to do it but find it hard to beleive we would be allowed to put up a fence that would tower over the alley and the neighbours like that. ohh another thing I could mention... Have been up and down my road to see if anyone else has made their fences higher, and yes, in some instances people have put up enormous fences or walls to keep their garden private. But we are unable to find an example of one that overshadows someones house or garden, it's only when peoples gardens back onto the road that they have done this. We had a man round to quote on a fence and he didn't mention any possible legal problems we could encounter, but I suppose he wasn't going to - he just wanted the job.
Where do I stand with this garden fence issue? The fence on our neighbours side of our garden is badly in need of replacement and falling down in parts. We don't get on brilliantly with our neighbours - we're civil but that's about it and they can be quite confrontational - we would really like their fence replaced as it spoils the look of our garden and means they can peer over at us when we're outside (which they do!), however as it's their fence we are loath to pay the cost of replacing the panels. How do we stand legally with this? If we go round to talk to them about this we're sure they will refuse to replace it - we were even thinking of asking them if they wanted to split the cost just so we could get it done. What do you think? The fence I'm referring to definately belongs to them! We checked when we bought the house and the side that is our responsibility (on the left) has been replaced.
How to stop animals from eating your garden, safetly, environmentally, besides garden fence? we just recently moved into a new house, i tilled the yard yesterday and planted all my potted herbs, tomatoes, potaoes, peppers, i want to protect them from eating bunny's but i do not have room for a garden fence, and i hate nasty stuff, anthing easy and helpful, also, I planted each at least 4-5 inches apart, thats enough room, right? any help, thanks!
A 10ft Gazebo backing onto our garden fence, is this legal? Just moved into a brand new home (UK), and have a 6ft wooden panelled parameter fence around our garden. The house backing onto our back garden have today constructed a 10ft metal Gazebo which backs onto our 6ft fence, its obviously clearly visible to us, and we don't like it. Is there anything we can do to oppose this?

I have a situation whereas a garden fence which to me ,has not been secured down in the correct manner. high wind has brought this fence down onto tennents cars and damaged them. before i tackle the insurance company ,i need some ammo. the fence is 6ft it has been covered by a wind breaking materal and has been propped up. look forward to some imput
which garden fence am i responsible for? i live in a semi detached house and there is only one fence between my ajoining neighbour. It has blown down several times, and have replaced my self. There is a very big tree in the neighbours garden and the roots are pushing the fence our way with visible roots on our side. Does anyone know where i stand legally.
How can I cat proof my garden fence to keep my 3 cats safe? Two of my cats have been hit by cars in tne past 8 weeks and are lucky to have survived although one will probably lose a front paw. I have a 30 foot garden which is fully fenced but the cats can climb over the top. Does anyone have any ideas how to perhaps use netting on top of the fencing to keep the cats in the garden? Any help would be much appreciated as I feel am being cruel by keeping them indoors as they are used to going outside.
Problems with neighbours and garden fence. What can i do? I have had problems with my neighbours for years on and off but my main worry at the moment is... in the heat of the moment i got angry when they erected a new fence beside our old one in the garden and i ran out and tried to stop them putting it up. Anyway for years weve had this problem with the fence being not in the right position as they kept moving it overinto my garden to make their garden bigger. Now they have built the new fence i believe it to be built on my land. I live in Scotland and was wondering what my position in Scots Law would be if i were to take them to court. I now have to go to court myself as they called the police when i tried to stop them but i believe it was on my land.
Advice needed on tall trees/bushes to plant next to neighbours low back garden fence? My neighbours back garden fence (their fence) is chest height and we dont have much privacy in our garden, esp because they have regular parties. Can you recommend any tall leafy fast-growing plants/trees/bushes that can eventually grow to 5ft or 6ft? We are a family with 2 kids and lost of lost footballs and they are all nice young foreign students/tenants. I think my neighbours would appreciate some privacy boundary too. Any suggestions?
Putting up garden fence? I am so sick of having animals get into my vegetables - I've tried pie plates on string, and scarecrows but to no avail. I know that fencing probably won't help with the deer but at least it will keep out the woodchucks and rabbits. We've got a couple rolls of fencing (the wire garden kind), but I've never put in a fence before. Any tips? Like how closely spaced do the posts have to be, and how deep do they have to be? I want to be able to take it up relatively easily, but obviously I don't want it to be falling over either.
We replaced our back garden fence a few year back? We replaced our back garden fence a few year back? as it had seen better days we did this while the house that shares the fence was up for sale and was empty. new neighbours moved in and have rested heavy stones and tryers against the fence which has caused it to lean rather alot and the one of the fixing post has come lose and is leaning aswell. should we ask the neighbour to help fix it
How do you stop young kids from vandalising a 5 foot high wooden garden fence? It backs onto a sheltered footpath and kids seem to take pleasure in smashing holes in the panels as they walk by. Not to mention the traditional grafitti which has also appeared on the pieces that are left! Killing or maiming them is not an option but any other ideas would be welcome. Repairing the fence is becoming expensive and just seems to encourage them. Every fence in the lane is suffering so it's becoming a big problem. The kids laugh and run away when challenged by anyone. The police can't do anything unless the kids are caught in the act of damaging property. All I want to do is build a fence and protect it from damage. Maybe I should make it iron railings with barbed wire???? :-(
HELP!! Where can i get a grant for a new garden fence for my Autistic child???? I have an autistic child who is unable to go out to play(as he is an easy target for the local bullies)and now he can't play in his back garden as the fence is broken. The council say it is not their responsility as it is a dividing fence and not a perimeter one. My son has cut himself and got numerous splinters on many occasions and now my neighbour is unhappy as my child keep making attempts to climb the broken fence. Please help me if you can summer is just around the corner and he would love a safe area to play in. Thanks x just to follow on after some comments my son was ALWAYS supervised when he was allowed out to play thats how I know that he was being bullied!! I'm not an overprotective parent who wishes to shelter her child from the outside world, it's just the way he perceives the outside world is different to how we do.He already has low self esteem i just wanted my child to be able to play outside in the fresh air in peace. Yes fencing panels may be cheap but transporting them home and erecting them isn't. I'm a full time carer for my autistic child and he also has ADHD. i am also a carer for my physically disabled mum so money is tight and time is precious as you can imagine!! I can really do without criticism my job is highly demanding and i do it because i care for my family. Please don't critisize what you can't understand. BE HAPPY :-) x Autism is not just a state of mind it is as disabling as a physical disabilty,it goes unnoticed because you can't physically see it. But to people who DO understand Autism will know they cannot just change their state of mind. If you would like to know more about autism please contact the National Autistic Society for more information it may just open your eyes!!!! BUT to all those those people who have sent me informative and thoughtful answers i really appreciate it THANK YOU :-)
Electric Garden Fence? I've been having a problem with raccoons and woodchucks. Last year, they stole over half of my tomatoes and all my watermelons, zucchini, and sweet corn leaving only my peppers. Repellents such as hair, fox urine and capascin or bitter sprays have not worked for me. They keep out the deer and rabbits, but the raccons and woodchucks are smart enough to overcome both them and my Hav-a-Hart trap. I've been thinking about purchasing an electric garden fence. Has anyone had any experience with these? Are they worth the cost?
Welded wire garden fence? Considering installing green 2"x3" - 48" high welded wire garden fence. Envision using 4x4 posts (in concrete) on corners and at gate, with t-posts for support between that. It is not a large fence with only 140 linear feet. My concern is - do I need any special support on end or corner posts? I don't believe welded wire is stretched like chain link so is there a tension concern? Any site with directions on such an install? Thanks.
should I paint the garden fence? I have just moved into a new home and my back garden fences are 3 different colours(I have neighbours each side and one behind me)Can I paint them a colour of my choice or its the neighbours who should do it.It looks a real mess

What is the maximum height allowed for a fence in your garden? What is the height you are allowed to go up to in your back garden when putting up a fence, or putting trellis on top of the fence panel that is there already ? My mother has recently had trouble with a new family that has moved in next to her, the kids of the family are climbing onto the fence and hanging over it in to my mothers garden, they are also untiying plants, and have not stopped after speaking to the family, as well as it being a pain, she is worried that they will lean over to far and fall over onto her slabs, since it is their fence, is she considering adding on trellis to her side of the panel. any ideas? (I've already surgested shooting them!) Poison Ivy sounds good and it is what i would do that or razor wire, but she wants a peaceful soultion ! any way I'm in the UK so anyone know from england ?
Narrow basil garden along an ugly fence? I have a raised bed narrow (16" width X 20 length garden that borders a fairly ugly 6 ft wood fence in Dallas. The weather is hot but since the garden is raised the basil thrives. HELP!! Many complaints about the uglieness of the garden. Are there tall achor plantings(preferably evergreen or that will stay nice year round) for end caps and to place in between basil to break it up that can complement this garden and do well in an unforgiving environmen?

Any ideas to block my neighbours from seeing into my garden without putting up a large fence? My next door neighbours are always out partyin and drinking in their back garden. I cant sit in mine without them all staring at me. We have a 1m high mesh fence separating our gardens and i want to put something up to block them out! I dont want to put up a big fence because it would cause alot of agro, and i cant put up screening because she has loads of climbing plants weaving in and out of the mesh fence. I have bought climber plants to put on my side of the fence, but i want something better and quicker - preferably up to 6ft high. I was contemplating nailing some trellis to the fence so my plants can climb up high, but if anyone can think of something better then i'd really appreciate it. Thanks

UK only.....Is there a height limit for a garden fence? My mums neighbour has erected a garden fence which is an absolute eyesore and although not blocking light, it does obsure an otherwise clear landscape. I am also sure they have put it back to front because the struts are on my mums side and the actual panels are on the neighbours side. Is there a legal height limit for a garden fence? what is it? and which way round should the fence panels face?
