What type of wood to make a garden gate? I want to replace my garden gate with a gate of the same design. The gate is a single sheet of wood in a timber frame. It's about 90cm wide by 110cm high. What type of wood is best for this (plywood, chipboard, or what)? It should be about 2cm thick to be sturdy enough, and to take the screws for the hinges and fittings.
What product could I use to treat/paint both a new untreated garden gate & the old already painted gate posts? I've bought a gardengate kit made of untreated pine to replace my old wooden garden gate which is falling apart. I want to reuse the existing gate posts because they're in good nick and replacing them means drilling into concrete which is too much effort! Trouble is the gate posts have been painted already, but the new gate is untreated pine. I'm looking for an exterior wood treatment or paint that suitable for both the new gate and the previously painted gate posts. I'm hoping I can get more creative than buying 2 separate products = wood preservative/treatment for the gate and paint in a vaguely matching colour for the gate posts!! Any ideas anyone? Do neighbours with adjoining garden gates have acess rights? Our neighbour is a large high street bank, they have a small gate (historic) behind their property which joins our two gardens. Our Title Deeds don't show anyone at all having a right of access to our garden or property. But, as our garden has an easy access onto the main road, the bank have just got a new big wheelie bin and intend using this gate on an ongoing basis to put their bin on the main road via our garden. Can we remove this gate? and re-instate the wall that was there previously? Do we need to get planning permission to re-build the wall or remove the gate? I wouldn't mind but as it's a bank once they start using it I can see it becoming a regular access point for them and all their workmen, also they never even asked us if they could use it...but do they have rights to our ground as there is a historic gate there, even if they've not been using it up till now???

Japanese torii gate in garden? Ok again I have a Japanese garden, so all the Japanese garden enthusiest need to reply lol. Well I want a shinto torii gate in my back yard...I know how to make it and everything but I dunno wether I should have it as a gate or build a shinto shrine for it. I had the very back yard cleaned out and now I really don't know what to do with the torii gate if I make one. Fencing - I want to put a 6ft tall fence (preferably wooden) in my garden. Will need a gate too. How much? would this cost? The area is approximately 10 metres then a gate at the side - this area is 1.5 metres. I know absolutely nothing about fencing so any help would be very much appreciated. Do I have access rights? Land behind my house has been sold. For >10 yrs I accessed my garden via a back gate I have always had access to my garden via a gate, the previous owners also did this so in all is at least 15 years we have had access. The land behind was unused and has just been bought. I am concerned that I will loose the ability to access my garden. It was not something I thought about when I bought the house. Welded wire garden fence? Considering installing green 2"x3" - 48" high welded wire garden fence. Envision using 4x4 posts (in concrete) on corners and at gate, with t-posts for support between that. It is not a large fence with only 140 linear feet. My concern is - do I need any special support on end or corner posts? I don't believe welded wire is stretched like chain link so is there a tension concern? Any site with directions on such an install? Thanks.

my puppy has just been hit by a speeding car, could the driver of the car sue me? my dog ran out of the garden gate and ran on to the road. a car was speeding down the road and hit my dog at some speed. then drove of, luckly my dog doesnt seem to be hurt. i thought the driver of the car should of stopped to make sure he was ok. i've just been told that i could get sued by the driver for the damage to the car, is this correct?
